How Can You Tell If Someone is Wearing Dentures?

    By Developer | Denture | Comments are Closed | 10 August, 2021 | 0

For people who have dental concerns, they rely on the expertise of dentists to guide them on what needs to be done to fix their issues. One of the concerns people have in relation to their teeth is the need for restoration. There are scenarios where people may have lost a number of their teeth due to accidents or cavities. During these cases, dentists may recommend that these people avail of dentures. For some people that are concerned about the aesthetics involving things that may be placed in their mouths, they may feel that dentures would clearly show an artificial look to their teeth. This article will discuss more on dentures and the signs that may show that people are wearing them.

    Things to Know About Dentures

If you are currently in need of a solution to cover any of the teeth that you may have lost, you might be wondering what dentures are. Basically, a denture acts as artificial teeth and their surrounding tissues. Below are more details about dentures:

    •       Dentures may be created out of various types of materials. These may include resin, porcelain, acrylic, metal, or nylon. The materials to be used will depend on the budget and if the patient has some allergies against certain materials.
    •       Depending on the number of teeth that have been lost, a patient may be given a complete denture or a partial denture. Complete dentures are used for patients that have lost all of their teeth. Partial dentures, on the other hand, are used for those who have only lost a number of their teeth.
    •       There are different types of dentures that may be created based on the dentist’s advice and the patient’s preference. The common types of dentures include:

o   Traditional complete dentures are commonly used throughout the years. These dentures are for those people who have lost all of their teeth and wish to have removable dentures. They are used by placing them on top of the gums. These dentures are removable and may slip and slide inside the mouth.

o   Traditional partial dentures are also used by sitting them on top of the gums of patients. This makes them removable as well. However, the artificial teeth and surrounding tissues will fit the areas of the missing natural teeth of the patient.

o   Implant-supported dentures are dentures that are also removable. However, these are different from the traditional type of dentures because these make use of dental implants for the dentures to be securely attached to. The dentist will surgically open the gums so that the jawbone will be exposed. Holes will be drilled into the jawbone which will be installed with dental implants. The dentures will be fitted with attachment points that will be used to connect with the dental implants. Snap-on denture is a kind of implant-supported denture that is starting to gain attention within the industry. Before this type of denture is recommended by any dentist, the jawbone of the patient has to be checked if the bone structure will be able to secure the dental implants. If there is an issue with the jawbone structure, the dentist may need to subject the patient to bone grafting. This will be needed to fix the framework of the jawbone so that it will be able to fully support any dental implants.

How To Tell If Someone Is Wearing Dentures

For those people who are not fans of having other people notice that they are wearing dentures, they will be happy to know that under normal circumstances, dentures are unnoticeable to the human eye. However, if people get too close to their mouths, then there are chances that those people will notice that they are wearing artificial teeth. The following list shows some signs that someone is wearing dentures:

unnaturally cleaner or whiter than usual
The person’s teeth seem unnaturally cleaner or whiter than usual.

o   If the person wearing dentures is someone that you are very familiar with, you may notice that the person’s teeth may look different than usual. However, if you do not know the person well, you may not be able to identify them by just glancing at the person.

The teeth would have the same lengths.

o   The normal structure of a person’s teeth is that there are always imperfections at some parts of the teeth. There are times that the artificial teeth placed on the dentures have the same lengths that would fit perfectly with each other when the person smiles.

Speech disorders usually come up when people are fairly new at wearing dentures.

o   Identifying dentures through a person’s speech can only be done when a person has just started wearing dentures. By listening closely to the person, you may detect a lisp. This happens because the tongue and the mouth are not used to having dental plates. However, as time passes, the lisp will eventually disappear, and it will be impossible to know if the person is wearing a denture by observing the person’s speech.

You may easily identify people wearing dentures by the way they eat.

o   This is very clear when people are wearing traditional dentures. Without dental implants, people bite and chew more carefully than normal. This is due to the fact that dentures with no implants cannot give people the needed power to easily tear and chew their food with force.

Signs Of A Person Wearing Dentures Are Not Very Clear

During normal circumstances, you do not have to worry about people noticing that you are wearing dentures, unless they suddenly get too close to you. If people start to notice that you are wearing dentures, then that may be a sign for you to have your dentist check your denture. There may be some issue with the appearance or the denture might not fit perfectly. You have to make sure that the dentist will make the color or the look of the denture seem as natural as possible. You can check your smile and see if your teeth would look natural or if they would seem too perfect and not believable.
