How Much Does Treatment for Root Canal Cost?

    By Danny | Dental Knowledge | Comments are Closed | 12 December, 2019 | 2

Hearing “you need to undergo root canal treatment” from your dentist, might be the scariest line ever to you. Due to some factors which include root canal pain and especially the root canal cost.

You may skip other dental procedures, whenever you wanted to, but not a root canal treatment. When your dentist advised you to take a root canal procedure, you might as well proceed to it. That is to avoid any other dental infections that may lead to severe oral health problems.

A root canal dental procedure is done to repair and save your severely infected damaged tooth to prevent severe complications. Thus, it is recommended to address your root canal problems as soon as possible.

Also, ironically speaking but the so-called “expensive” root canal treatment will definitely save you more money. Why? Because when the infections on your teeth are removed, there will be at least no/fewer dental problems. That is where you can save more money. Less dental problems less dental maintenance, as well.

So, it is indeed important to undergo root canal treatment, no matter how much it cost.

When Does a Root Canal Procedure and Treatment Need?

Generally, root canal treatment and procedures are recommended when the infection or bacteria are deep within the tooth. There is a pulp inside the tooth which is possible to catch bacteria, which can lead to infection. If this infection is left untreated, it can cause severe oral problems so it is important to treat it immediately.

    Some Signs of Severe Infection

Although not all tooth pain is subjected to root canal problems, it is still important to be aware of these signs. These are some of the signs that you have a severe infection:

    1. You experience a serious teeth pain when eating or when you are putting pressure on the area.
    2. Your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold which still lingers even after the hot or cold stimuli have been removed.
    3. You observe that there is a small, pimple-like bump on the gums near the area where your tooth hurts.
    4. Rotten tooth. Darkening tooth.
    5. The gums near the area of teeth pain are swelling and bleeding.

What Affects the Root Canal Treatment Cost?

The root canal dental procedure cost varies depending on some important factors. These are the following:

    1. The extent of damage – how severely infected or damaged the tooth is.
    2. Who to perform the treatment – your choice if you will go to a dentist or specialist.
    3. Root canal location – is it a front tooth, bicuspid or molar?
    4. Other fees – consultation, x-ray fees, a follow-up check-up.

How much does Root Canal Treatment Cost?

The average root canal treatment cost in Canada is ranging from $300 to $2000. Depending on what root canal procedure to be performed. But here is the average root canal cost for each procedure.

    • Front tooth: $762
    • Bicuspid: $879
    • Molar: $1,111

Those average prices mentioned above are for the root canal treatment alone. Other additional fees are not yet included. If you will include other fees the estimated cost is:

    • Front tooth: $1,500
    • Bicuspid: $1,800
    • Molar: $2,000

Also, after the root canal treatment, your dentist might place a crown or a filling which is another additional charge. With a dental crown is can cost less than $1,300 while a filling can cost less than $500.

Another thing is, same with other medical procedures, complications may arise during or after the root canal treatment. So, again possible charges can be added to the final cost. In some cases, roots of a tooth crack due to severe infections decay or trauma. This happens when the root canal is delayed and the infection or bacteria already spread out.

Some Tips to Help you Cut The Root Canal Procedure Cost

Since root canal treatment cost is expensive, many dental patients are looking for some ways to lessen the cost. So, here are some of the few strategies that you can do to save money without compromising the procedure.

    • You can look for a dental discount card and use it.
    • If you are working in a company, find out if they are also offering dental insurance.
    • Before consulting, conduct research first so you can compare charges at different dental clinics in your locality.
    • Find out if you can get a discount by paying in cash or one payment basis.
    • Search for an organization in your local that can help with dental costs. There are some organizations that also offer health dental care.
    • Look into dental schools or endodontic schools near your area, they do different dental procedures, for a lesser cost or sometimes free.

    Final Thoughts

Treatment for a root canal might cost you some dollars but always remember that prevention is always better than cure. After all, getting a root canal treatment is all worth your money and is good for your oral health.
